21 MAY: TRANSNATIONAL DAY OF STRUGGLE AGAINST DEPORTATIONS

STATEMENT BY THE NETWORK AFRIQUE-EUROPE INTERACT - SECTION SOKODÉ, TOGO

Sokode, due to its history, is the main departure and transit city for migrants on the SOKODE-OUAGADOUGOU-NIAMEY-BAMAKO corridor. In this sense, there are former migrants who have been deported or pushed back, young candidates for migration, young migrants who have returned voluntarily or who have been deported from Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, Libya, Lebanon...

On this day of May 21, 2022, the Afrique-Europe Interact network, section TOGO in Sokodé, on the occasion of the transnational day of fight against deportations, condemns these various massive deportations of migrants which do not respect the value and dignity of the human person.

The report of ALARME PHONE SAHARA from January to March 2022 testifies to this. It emerges from this report as a reminder that in 2021 at least 25,396 migrants were deported from Algeria to Niger. In 2022, between January and March, at least 3,376 migrants were deported from Algeria and Libya to Niger.

Faced with this alarming situation and in view of the massive consequences of the deportations on all levels, the Togolese section of the Afrique-Europe Interact network in Sokodé once again condemns these inhumane practices and calls on the EU authorities to put an end to the deportations of migrants and encourage true integration between Africa and Europe. This is the only way that the youth of the South and the youth of the North can integrate and achieve a sustainable human development for both Europe and Africa for a better WORLD.

OPEN THE BORDERS!!! STOP DEPORTATIONS!!!
