Assamaka: More than 1,000 deportees outside without shelter - inaccessibility to IOM services

10, 12 and 14 February 2023: Arrival of at least 2298 people deported from Algeria to Niger in Assamaka.

Three deportation convoys from Algeria arrived in Assamaka, on the Algerian-Nigerian border on 10, 12 and 14 February 2023, according to observations by Alarme Phone Sahara whistleblowers. At the same time, in the border village, a humanitarian crisis is worsening in the face of continued mass deportations, compounded by the fact that IOM services have not been welcoming new arrivals for months, according to local reports. Alarme Phone Sahara's whistleblowers in Assamaka report that before the arrival of the last deportation convoys, there were already more than 1,000 people out there without shelter, blankets or mats, exposed to all sorts of dangers, lack of food and lack of water.

Alarme Phone Sahara warns urgently of the serious consequences for thousands of migrants in Niger, who risk to be in acute distress if they remain excluded from IOM services!

Alarme Phone Sahara strongly condemns the continuation of mass deportations from Algeria to Niger and calls for their immediate stop!
