28th of August 2020, 90 km from Dirkou: Tragic accident in the desert - 4 people killed and 2 wounded

On 28th ofAugust 2020, Laouel Taher, alert person of Alarme Phone Sahara (APS), was informed of an accident 90km west of Dirkou in northern Niger by a satellite phone call. According to current reports, four people have died and two have been injured.

Migrants and refugees deported to Niger despite Corona crisis and stranded in IOM camps. Protests sparked by unbearable conditions.

As borders between African states are closed due to the Corona crisis, deportations and pushbacks continue and thousands of migrants and refugees are stranded in transit countries such as Niger. Protests arise while people complain about bad living conditions inside camps and mismanagement by the IOM.

Arlit: Protest and revolt by people who were deported against remaining stranded at the IOM camp

In Arlit, around 640 people, mostly migrants deported from Algeria, are currently stranded in the IOM transit camp. On 20th of April, people protested and revolted against the unbearable conditions in which they are currently living.
