10, 12 and 14 February 2023: Arrival of at least 2298 people deported from Algeria to Niger in Assamaka.

Deportations from Algeria to Niger continue on a large scale, with 5181 people deported between 29th of October and 04th of December 2022 according to Alarme Phone Sahara's observations. Between 8th and 21st of October 2022, at least 1964 people from various countries were deported from Algeria to Niger. The number of people deported since the beginning of 2022 is now at least 19069.

The Alarme Phone Sahara team from Assamaka went to "Point Zero" with their tricycle to assist the deportees, especially the sick, injured and weakened, to get to the village of Assamaka.

During the months of August and September 2022, at least 4747 people were deported from Algeria to Niger, according to Alarme Phone Sahara's whistleblowers in Assamaka, the Algerian-Nigerian border. The number of people deported since the beginning of 2022 is now at least 17105.

On 15th of July 2022, a new "operational partnership against migrant smuggling", also called „working arrangement“, was signed in Brussels between Frontex and the EU Capacity Building Mission, EUCAP Sahel Niger, in the presence of Niger‘s Interior Minister Hamadou Adamou Souley.

To assist people deported with convoys from Algeria arriving in Assamaka at the Algerian-Nigerian border, Alarme Phone Sahara (APS) has purchased a tricycle tuctuc vehicle that is used for different situations of need or distress.

On 20th and 22nd of March 2022, at least 1693 people were deported from Algeria to Niger. Alarme Phone Sahara teams report precarious situation in Assamaka and in the northern cities of Niger for thousands of deportees who are not or not sufficiently taken care of in IOM camps.

The year 2022 has started with large-scale deportation convoys from Algeria and Libya to Niger, accompanied by systematic violations of the rights and dignity of the people concerned.

The year 2021 ends with the tragic death of a Sudanese citizen deported from Algeria who died at "point zero" in the desert area of the Algerian-Nigerian border near the town of Assamaka. During the whole of 2021, at least 25396 people were deported from Algeria to Niger.
